The yachting industry is one that usually has it’s own set of rules, however as we have all learnt, unfortunately nothing escapes the coronavirus pandemic- not even the super yacht industry.
With the Mediterranean season just around the corner, how do you find work?
In previous years, junior crew looking to join the industry would flock to yachting hubs like Antibes, Palma and Fort Lauderdale. With the current travel restrictions (as of 31st January 2021) new restrictions have been implemented by the French government making it impossible for Non-EU crew to travel to France to look for work.
What to do if you are a Non-EU crew member?
Currently, non-EU citizens cannot enter France without compelling grounds (looking for work unfortunately does not qualify) so it is now illegal to fly to France to for holiday or leisure travel.
You may enter however if you have a valid job offer and SEA (Seafarer Employment Agreement) in hand and are able to provide a negative PCR test done less than 72 hours prior to departure and by agreeing to self-isolate for 7 days.
What to do if you are an EU citizen?
EU crew members can enter France and are therefore able to look for work. A negative PCR test done less than 72 hours prior to departure is required, however you are not required to self isolate.
Even if you are able to enter France or other yachting destinations we do not recommend you dock walk in order to look for work.
So what can you do in order to look for work from home?
