What Is A Schengen Visa?
Depending on what passport you hold, you will require a Schengen visa when entering the Schengen States. These include Austria Belgium Czech Republic Denmark Estonia Finland France Germany Greece
Hungary Iceland Italy Latvia Lithuania Luxembourg Malta
Netherlands Norway Poland Portugal Slovakia Slovenia Spain
Sweden Switzerland Liechtenstein
A Schengen visa is a short-stay visa that allows a person to travel to any of the Schengen countries, for up to 90 days in a 180 day time frame.
How Do I Apply?
Before you apply you need to put together your travel plan, how many days you plan to be in the zone, the countries you are going to visit (if more than one), the country you are going to enter and the country you are going to exit.
If you plan on visiting multiple countries, you must apply to the embassy of the country you will be visiting the longest. If you you are going to multiple for an equal amount of time, send it to the first country whose border you will cross to get into the Schengen States.
How Much Does It Cost?
The cost of a Schengen visa is €80 per adults. Check the list of Schengen Visa fees, which precisely indicates the categories that benefit from the reduced visa costs or that are exempt from paying the fee.
Additional Tips and Information
-
It will generally take anywhere from 15-30 days to process your application- this will be less if you go through an agency.
Do not make any travel or accommodation bookings until your visa is granted, as flight cancelations can be very expensive.
- If your Visa is cancelled, you can appeal. You need to contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Schengen State you applied to.
- Do no overstay your visa.
- Once you are employed on a yacht, make sure the Captain signs you off the visa. This means the time you are employed onboard does not eat into your 90 day allocation to travel. This is SUPER important.
