STCW Basic Training Course Cape Town
All maritime careers start with one essential qualification — the STCW Basic Training Course Cape Town.
Whether you’re aiming to work on superyachts, cruise ships, or commercial vessels, this internationally recognised certification is mandatory for all crew working at sea. Offered weekly at our Cape Town academy, our STCW course is accredited by SAMSA (South African Maritime Safety Authority) and complies fully with IMO (International Maritime Organisation) standards. Certification is valid for 5 years.

What is STCW?
STCW stands for Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping. It’s a global safety framework established to ensure all seafarers receive consistent, high-quality safety training. First adopted in 1978, the STCW Convention was amended in 1995 and again in 2010 (Manila Amendments).
It is compulsory to complete your STCW basic training course in order to be eligible to legally work onboard any maritime vessel, regardless of position or rank. STCW basic training is most affordable in Cape Town in comparison to other countries pricing.
