When one thinks of working on board luxury yachts, all you typically think about is the glamorous lifestyle, the celebrities you could rub shoulders with and being able to travel to destinations you might not be able to afford yourself. All of the above is true, but what is often not quite thought through is how much it costs to work as yacht crew.
Typically newbie yachties just think that they will coin it working on board luxury yachts – and for the most part this is true, however it becomes really easy to look at the way the guests live and want to “live it up” yourself too.
Now one can earn quite nicely on board luxury charters: some have structured pay, some tips and some both.
What Costs Do The Vessel Cover?
Depending on what type of charter it is you can typically expect to be covered in full for your stay on board. There is however another scenario which calls for Shared Contributions: All on board costs are shared on a pre-agreed basis. It is therefore crucial that you know which is being offered to you in advance, so you can budget accurately for your trip.
Typical yacht jobs cover the following:
-
Free board
-
Basic Toiletries
-
Meals
-
Uniforms
-
Laundry
-
Liability Insurance (injuries)
-
Some provide health (medical) and dental insurance.
-
A very generous owner might agree to pay for your travel costs to and from the vessel
What Costs Will You Have To Cover?
-
All items of personal nature (make-up, shaving cream etc)
-
Onshore costs such as meals, transport and activities
-
In-between charter accommodation
-
Entertainment
-
Visas
-
Flights
-
Mobile data, SIM card etc
